The VA provides a burial allowance to help cover funeral and burial costs for eligible veterans. Service-connected death benefits and non-service-connected allowances differ in amount.
Presidential Memorial Certificate
An engraved certificate signed by the current President, presented to honor the memory of a veteran. Multiple copies can be requested for family members.
Burial at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery
Eligible veterans and their spouses may be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma or Miramar National Cemetery at no cost for the plot or interment.
Government-Furnished Headstone or Marker
The VA provides a headstone, marker, or medallion at no charge for eligible veterans buried in any cemetery — national, state, or private.
Burial Flag
A United States flag is provided at no cost to drape the casket or accompany the urn of a deceased veteran. The flag is presented to the next of kin after the service.
