Serving National City families means understanding a community with deep pioneer roots that stretch back to Frank, Warren, and Levi Kimball's purchase of the 26,000-acre Rancho de la Nación in 1868. From the brick row houses of Heritage Square to the hillside graves at La Vista Memorial Park, much of this city's founding history is still visible today, and we help local families honor that sense of continuity. A community rooted in San Diego County's pioneer past
National City traces its identity to 1868, when the Kimball brothers bought the sprawling Rancho de la Nación and began building the roads, wharf, and railroad that shaped the South Bay. Incorporated in 1887, it is the county's second-oldest city after San Diego itself. That heritage endures at La Vista Memorial Park, founded in 1868, and along Heritage Square's 1887 Brick Row, where many founding families are remembered to this day.
Cemeteries & Resting Places Near National City
We coordinate directly with these and all San Diego County cemeteries on your behalf.
La Vista Memorial Park
Orange Street, National City
Established in 1868 by the Kimball family, one of the oldest cemeteries in the county, with roughly a hundred pioneer graves, about 30 Civil War graves, an Armed Forces monument, and historic eucalyptus trees.
Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery
Point Loma, San Diego
A national cemetery offering columbarium niches and cremation interment for eligible veterans and their families.
Miramar National Cemetery
Miramar, San Diego
A newer national cemetery offering in-ground and columbarium options, often with greater availability than the historic Fort Rosecrans grounds.
Sea scattering on San Diego Bay and beyond
Because National City sits on the eastern shore of San Diego Bay, many families choose to scatter cremated remains at sea. Under federal EPA rules, scattering must take place at least three nautical miles from shore, and the EPA must be notified within 30 days. No advance permit is required, only this after-the-fact report. We can help coordinate a respectful charter departing from San Diego Bay, or arrange scattering at a garden or on private property with the owner's permission.
