Vernie

Veronica Campos Dominguez, Vernie, beloved and cherished bride, loving mother, and devoted friend, passed away Tuesday morning June, 27, 2023, at Scripps-La Jolla Medical Center/Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. Vernie was 67 years old. She is survived by her husband Reynaldo Dominguez, Jr, son Reynaldo Dominguez III, son and daughte-in-law Robert Anthony Dominguez and Diana Dominguez, her older sister Dora Campos Martinez and husband Gregorio Martinez, and baby brother Alfredo Campos, Jr, and wife Lyzza Campos.

Vernie was born in El Paso, TX, and lived there until Rey married her whisked her away to live in Hawaii in August of 1975. She quickly found out what it meant to be a Navy submarine sailor's wife, but with determination and the help of other wives, she soon found her secure footing. To say that Vernie adapted to the island life is an understatement, but she did. Then Vernie and Rey moved to San Diego in May of 1977, again with the Navy, and here is where she stayed to put down roots and raise a family with Rey, raising two awesome sons. She was a Navy Ombusman to help other submariners' wives get help with issues at home while their husbands were away at sea defending the frontiers of freedom.

Vernie worked as an instructural aid with San Diego City Schools from 1984 to 2002, starting at Central Elementary, where she was able to keep an eye on our sons in the beginning of their time in school, and ended at Rosa Parks Elementary as a special education assistant.

Vernie liked to read and was very excited to read the Harry Potter books and various mystery and life books. Her favorite authors were John Grisham, Nicholas Sparks, and Brenda Novak. Her favorite music artists were Gloria Estefan, Santana, Jackson 5, and various 70's and 80's groups. She loved to dance but it became difficult in her later years due to health complications. She will be deeply and terribly missed by all who loved her and knew her and who experienced her infectious good spirit.

In lieu of flowers, suggest a donation to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Services are set as follows:

July 12, 2023 - Visitation and prayer service from 5-8 pm. Location is Bravo Family Mortuary, 4427 Rainier Ave., San Diego, CA 92120

July 13, 2023 - Interment at 1:15 pm. Location is Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122.

Suggested dress is business casual. Also, island style business casual; nice aloha shirt, subdued colors, with slacks.
