Randall Archie Dierlam

Randall Archie Dierlam "Randy" passed away on August 11, 2024, in La Jolla, California, at the

age of 65. Randy succumbed after a long fight against complications from service-related

injuries, kidney disease, and stroke. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend

who touched the lives of all who knew him. Randy was born on December 23, 1958, in Pasco,

Washington, to Irene Van Hollebeke and William Calvin Dierlam. Following the death of his

father William, when Randy was four months old, he and his mother relocated to Phoenix,

Arizona, after she remarried to Richard Jayne, of Spokane, WA. Randy grew up with his

brothers, Kevin and Allen Jayne. He attended Desert View Elementary and Sunnyslope High

School, graduating in 1977. While in elementary and high school some of his hobbies included

playing pop-warner, baseball leagues, attending basketball camp, playing on his high-school

baseball, basketball and football teams, rifle club, participating in Scouts, and driving fast cars.

Randy spent many childhood summers with family at his uncle’s wheat farm in Washinton where

he enjoyed riding on his Grandfathers tractor, shooting at birds and enjoying the great outdoors

with his cousins.

Immediately upon graduating high school, Randy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at

Camp Pendleton, where he served as an infantry unit leader, Staff Sergeant, and a

reconnaissance Marine, he served in 1st and 3rd Recon Battalion from 1977-1985 and was a

long-time member of the Force Recon Association. Honorably discharged, he joined the San

Diego Police Academy and served as a San Diego city officer. His career then took a turn when

he was asked to work for the U.S. State Department at the U.S. Embassy in South Africa. Upon

his return from South Africa, Randy pursued higher education, graduating from Thomas

Jefferson Law School with a Juris Doctor degree and immediately passed the California State

Bar. He dedicated 30 years to practicing civil and family law and in more recent years worked

for the National Guard as a civilian Lawyer in Sacramento, CA.

On a more personal note, on October 24, 1998, Randy married Emily Theresa Roe, known as

Terrie, in a ceremony at the La Valencia in La Jolla, California. They made their home in Bird

Rock, La Jolla, and welcomed their only child, daughter Paige, in September of 2003. Randy

enjoyed watching Paige grow into the college student that she currently is, and was involved in

all aspects of her life, attending her school functions, church events, dance competitions and

golf events; and more than once jumping in to defend, protect and always guide her. Randy

was particularly passionate about his Christian faith beliefs and made sure to impart the

importance of that on his family. Randy was known for his charismatic, honest, loving, and kind

nature, always ready to lend a hand to family and friends. He was the consummate protector

and provider. Randy always maintained his passion for target practice, sports shooting and

hunting and enjoyed maintaining close ties with friends from all stages of his life. With his family

Randy enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii where Paige and he would swim and snorkel; and playing

with our family dog King, who he adored. Skiing, hunting and fishing trips with family and friends

were favorite pastimes he enjoyed as well as the occasional hike and golf game. Anyone who

knows Randy has a story or two to talk about the adventures or misadventures they had

together!

Randy is survived by his wife, Emily (Terrie) Dierlam, daughter Paige Dierlam, and brothers

Kevin and Allen Jayne. A service will be held on August 23, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Bravo Family

Mortuary, 4427 Rainier Ave., San Diego, CA 92120. The military burial service will follow at

Miramar National Cemetery from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. sharp. Memorial contributions in Randy's

honor can be made to Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors, or the NRA.
