Marvin Eugene Schrader

May 15, 1927- October 19, 2024

Marvin Eugene Schrader passed away at the age of 97. He spent his final days in the comfort of

his home, surrounded by the love of friends and neighbors.

Born into a family that moved to a citrus grove north of Escondido, Marvin enjoyed a

picturesque childhood, earning pocket money by picking fruit and developing a lifelong passion

for baseball. After graduating from Escondido High School, he enlisted in the Navy but was

discharged early when World War II ended. He then attended Utah State University, earning a

business degree. Although he initially aimed for a career in banking, Marvin found his true

calling in construction with Trenke Construction in San Diego, where he worked for decades on

various local projects.

At 50, Marvin retired and acquired two beach properties in Mission Beach, becoming a beloved

figure in the community. He was known for his welcoming nature, often sharing a cold Pacifico

or the latest sports news with neighbors. His front patio featured the tallest flagpole in Mission

Beach, where he raised the flag every morning for over 30 years.

Marvin also developed a passion for growing Plumeria plants, amassing a collection of nearly

100. He took pride in sharing his knowledge with visitors who admired his beautiful flowers.

A devoted dog lover, Marvin rescued several abandoned dogs and spent 14 wonderful years

with April, a chocolate Labrador retriever. They were inseparable companions, enjoying daily

walks and adventures together.

Marvin's cheerful spirit and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves

behind a legacy of friendship, love, and a reminder to always embrace the simple joys in life.
