In Loving Memory of Mom
Karen Pearl Porter, age 51, passed away on February 20, 2026 in San Diego, California.
She was a kind and gentle soul with the most radiant smile — the kind that could light up a room and make others feel seen. She loved to write poetry, using her words to express the depth of her heart and the beauty she saw in the world.
Above all, she loved her daughters deeply and often reminded them to trust and love each other — a lesson that will continue to guide them throughout their lives.
One of her poems, titled “At a Whisper of a Thought,” reflects the heart and guidance she shared with those she loved:
At a Whisper of a Thought
"At a whisper of a thought,
someone asks a question.
One gives an automatic answer.
Is the first answer the correct response?
If in doubt, one might begin to lose clarity.
Be sure and definite in your every move.
Don’t go with the trend, stating that is the groove.
At a whisper of a thought, be real and stay true to self.
One hopes a stream of wealth travels one’s way.
Choose wisely and look out for our family today.
Do your duty; that’s how everything will be okay.
One is grateful for the Lord’s mercy.
Therefore, one does not fret jealous needs.
Good seeds have been planted
to make the way not lonely and stagnant.
At a whisper of a thought —
don’t take this life for granted."
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie and Kacey; her sister Melissa; her brother Kenny; her mother Emily; and extended family and friends.
A viewing and funeral service will be held on March 4, 2026 in San Diego, California, where family and friends will gather to honor her life and lay her to rest with dignity and love.
Her radiant smile, her words, and her love for family will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
