Ervin Frederic Johnston

Ervin Johnston died on December 20,2023 at his residence in El Cajon California at the age of 92.

Ervin was born January 4, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri and was raised in St. Louis and Phoenix Arizona. In his last year of college at the University of Arizona, he met Louise Hendricks, and they were married a year later. Louise was the love of his life and died March 2, 2014 shortly after their 60th wedding anniversary.

After the first year of their marriage while enlisted in the Navy at Pearl Harbor, Louise and Ervin returned to the University of Arizona so Louise could finish a teaching degree and Ervin could obtain a Law degree. Louise taught elementary school for 13 years and Ervin practiced patent law for 43 years.

Ervin served for 20 years and retired as a captain in the Naval Reserve. Ervin’s hobbies were traveling to Hawaii and taking several cruises. Ervin also enjoyed swimming and diving. He earned the title of “San Diego diver of the year”, in 1973. At the age of 90, he took to writing 4 different child’s books. His wife who loved stories and telling stories was a major inspiration for these books.

Ervin is survived by two children, Deborah and Paul,7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Ervin and Louise had joy in their hearts by keeping their eyes on Jesus.

Ervin will be laid to rest and placed with his wife at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego with military honors on January 5 at 10:15 AM. Guests should arrive by 9:45AM.
